Recently, the renowned social media handle Twitter has replaced its iconic blue bird logo with the letter’ X.’ Letter ‘X’ will now serve as Twitter’s official logo. This decision was made following an announcement by Elon Musk over the weekend. The modification has already been implemented on the website.
Twitter had a blue bird logo for over a decade, which was officially adopted in 2010. In 2010, Twitter formally adopted a logo known as “Larry the Bird,” which was named after the legendary Boston Celtics basketball player Larry Bird.
However, ever since the magnate Elon Musk acquired Twitter, the social media handle has undergone considerable alterations, including modifications to its logo.
On July 23, 2023, Elon Musk took to his social media handle to announce the same. He tweeted, “x.com now points to twitter.com Interim X logo goes live later today.”
As per Musk’s tweet, it can be comprehended that this logo is an “interim” design, suggesting that there may be another logo change in the future. The social network may not only replace the AI-powered logo, but it might also go further. Musk stated that the company would eventually say goodbye to the Twitter brand and, over time, discontinue the use of the blue bird logo.
On Sunday evening, the SpaceX CEO updated his profile picture on Twitter to the new logo. The official Twitter account, @Twitter, has also updated its name and display picture to feature the new X logo.
Musk said in a Sunday tweet that he intended to alter Twitter’s logo and asked his millions of followers if they approved of switching the site’s primary color from blue to black. On a black background with stars and planets, he drew a stylized X and put it online.
The CEO of the company, Linda Yaccarino, also took to her Twitter handle to share the same. She tweeted, “X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
She said while Twitter revolutionized communication between individuals, X will take it a step further. X will introduce features that focus on audio, video, messaging, and payment/banking and transform it into a worldwide platform for sharing ideas, trading goods and services, and exploring opportunities.
The name change to X Corp from Twitter, which Musk acquired in October, reflects the billionaire’s goal of developing a “super app” on par with China’s WeChat.
It is widely recognized that Musk has an intense fascination with the letter ‘X’. In 1997, he established X.com, which later transformed into PayPal. The logo of his space startup, SpaceX, features the letter ‘X’. Most notably, he has recently founded an AI company known as X.ai. In April, the social network owned by Musk underwent a legal name change from Twitter Inc. to X Corp.

The Tesla CEO repeatedly discussed his vision of transforming the social network into a comprehensive app called “X, the everything app.” This is not the first time Musk has changed the Twitter logo. Earlier this year, he made a brief change to the social network’s logo by incorporating Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog emblem.
The company decided to change its branding shortly after Musk responded to a user, explaining that it is currently experiencing negative cash flow due to a significant decrease in advertising revenue and a substantial debt burden.
